FC Dallas will miss the North American Soccer League's MLS is Back mini-tournament, which will resume an interrupted season. According to the league's official website, this was done due to a coronavirus outbreak at the team, where 10 cases of COVID-19 infection among players were detected. The tests were conducted when the club's players arrived in Orlando in late June.
Don Garber, MLS Commissioner: "Given the instructions we have and the number of players who have arrived in Orlando and have tested positive, we believe they will not be able to train. In addition, it would not be in the health and safety of Dallas and the other teams that are coming there to continue to participate in the tournament."
The special MLS is back tournament is set to begin July 8, with all matches to be played at the Orlando Sports Complex. Twenty-six clubs in the league will participate. They will be divided into six groups. Each team will play three matches. After the tournament, the regular championship will resume on August 11. The winner of the tournament will receive a ticket to the CONCACAF 2021 Champions League.
